Suryakumar Yadav confirmed as new captain in T20Is

After there was speculation regarding Suryakumar’s appointment as the new T20I captain, the news was confirmed on Thursday. New head coach Gambhir is reported to have personally requested that Suryakumar be named the new captain ahead of veteran Hardik Pandya. The all-rounder was completely overlooked and Shubman Gill got the nod as the new vice-captain. Yadav used to lead the Indian side in the T20I format but now he is taking charge of the side on a permanent basis.

On the ODI side, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will return as expected, with the former in charge as captain. The duo, along with Ravindra Jadeja, announced their retirement from the T20I format after the T20 World Cup win in June, but both will now return to the ODI series, which will serve as the launching pad for the Champions Trophy 2025. As well as the T20Is, Gill has also been appointed as the vice-captain of the side ODI when he led the team in the T20I series against Zimbabwe.
