Indian-origin astronaut Sunita Williams is preparing for her third space mission aboard the Starliner spacecraft. It is scheduled to depart on May 7, 2024 and is at least 24 hours late. In an interview with NDTV, Williams said she plans to take a “good luck charm” – an idol of Lord Ganesha – with her on her space journey.
At age 58, Sunita Williams, who embarked on her first spacewalk in December 2006, recently shared her spiritual side.
The astronaut revealed that she plans to take a special ‘good luck charm’ – an idol of Lord Ganesha – with her on her third space journey. It has confirmed its intention to bring the Ganesha idol on its third space mission, launched by a flight test by NASA’s Boeing crew.
Williams expressed that Ganesh was her “good luck charm” and planned to bring the statue on a commercial crew flight.
She took the Bhagavad Gita with her on her previous two space missions.

Canceled two hours before the start
The launch of the Boeing Crew Space Transportation (CST)-100 Starliner, which was supposed to carry Sunita on her third space mission, faced a setback recently.
Just a few hours before the scheduled start, the launch was canceled due to a technical problem.
Two crew members had already been safely strapped into their seats aboard the spacecraft for approximately an hour before launch activities were suspended.
The delay was attributed to a problem with the Atlas rocket’s second stage valve. The development was announced during a NASA live webcast.
