Parvej Khan wins 1500m title at SEC Championships 2024 athletics

A farmer’s son from Haryana, Parvej Khan, who clinched the men’s 1500m title at the 2024 SEC Outdoor Track & Field Championships, a major collegiate athletics event held in Louisiana, USA, expressed his desire to represent India at the Olympics but conceded. the necessity of meeting the qualification standard.

Hailing from Chahalka, a village in Mewat district of Haryana, Parvej is in the US on a scholarship at the University of Florida.

On Saturday, he won the race at LSU’s Bernie Moore Stadium in Baton Rouge in 3 minutes, 42.73 seconds. His personal best is 3:38.76, which he achieved last month in California.

After his win, the 19-year-old told the media, “Yeah, I am thinking about representing India in the Olympics. But it’s really hard to qualify for Paris because I’m really far behind qualifying, but I try to give 100% and do my job every day. People trust me, so I’m doing well day by day to execute my plans well and I hope to get the Olympic standard.”

Later in the day, Parvej competed in the 800 meters and secured third place in 1:46.80, just seven tenths off his personal best set in Florida in March.
