Mumbai Indians beat Punjab Kings by 9 runs in a nail-biting finish

Punjab Kings won the toss and chose to field first. Mumbai Indians batted first at the Mullanpur Stadium when they lost the wicket of Ishan Kishan during the power play. However, from now on, the partnership between Surya Kumar Yadav and Rohit Sharma gave Mumbai the much-needed stability.

Rohit Sharma, who is playing his 250th IPL game today, couldn’t knock properly today. SKY was the top scorer for MI. He smashed 78 off 53 balls. A surge at the death thanks to an explosive cameo from Tilak Varma took the visitors to an impressive 192/7.

Harshal Patel was the most successful bowler for Punjab. He took three wickets, two in MI’s last innings. Stand-in captain Sam Curran also claimed two scalps.

Honjabi’s chase of 193 runs got off to a disastrous start! In the overpowering onslaught, the home team collapsed, losing four crucial goals! Prabhsimran Singh fell victim to the third ball of the innings, quickly followed by Rilee Rossouw, Sam Curran and Liam Livingstone.

Bumrah and Coetzee’s relentless onslaught sent PBKS to their knees with both bowlers taking two wickets each!

In the conventional sense, Punjab was out of the game much, much earlier. But along came Shashank Singh and Ashutosh Sharma. The two kept Punjab in the hunt and even after Singh’s departure, Sharma made sure the home side still had a chance.

He blasted 61 off 28 deliveries with seven maximums and two boundaries. He and Harpreet Brar combined for the 8th wicket which brought Punjab back into the game. In the last over, Punjab needed 12 runs. When Kagiso Rabada smashed a six in the 19th over, it looked like Punjab were going home. But that run out of Rabada led to heartbreak for the Punjab Kings at the Mullanpur Stadium as Mumbai Indians registered a 9-run thriller on Thursday.
