Kolkata Knight Riders achieved a brilliant victory at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium as they chased down the target of 183 set by Royal Challengers Bengaluru. The 7-wicket win came off 19 balls as KKR became the first team to win away from home in IPL 2024. They are now second in the league with 4 points from 2 matches, just behind Chennai Super Kings in Net Run Rate.
Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) clash at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore on March 29. This was RCB’s third match in IPL 2024 while KKR were playing their second match.
KKR won the toss and chose to field first. Virat Kohli and captain Faf du Plessis had a good start for RCB. However, Faf was soon sent away by Harshit Rana. RCB were 17/1 when Cameron Green joined Kohli. His quickfire 33 off 21 balls, with four 4s and two 6s, gave RCB a boost. At the other end, Virat continued to show his class in an IPL match.
KKR opted to open with Narine along with Phil Salt. Many doubted how much the combination would work, while some insisted that opening with Narine was a bad idea as KKR should have gone with a dedicated opener. By the time Narine got off Mayank Dagar, he had already scored 47 off 22 balls. KKR were 86/1 in just 6.3 overs. Salt was explosive from the start.
While there could be debates as to what was the best moment of the match, many believe it was the encounter between Gautam Gambhir and Virat Kohli.
Sunil Narine, who is playing his 500th T20 match, was awarded the man of the match.
