Nitasha Kaul, a British professor, claimed that she was detained at the Bengaluru International Airport and sent back to London because the Indian central government denied her permission to attend the convention in Bengaluru.
Kaul, a professor of politics and international relations at the University of Westminster, was invited by the Karnataka government to attend the “Convention on Constitution and National Unity” as a delegate.
IMPORTANT: Denied entry to #India for speaking on democratic & constitutional values. I was invited to a conference as esteemed delegate by Govt of #Karnataka (Congress-ruled state) but Centre refused me entry. All my documents were valid & current (UK passport & OCI). The BJP in Karnataka accused the Congress of inviting “Pakistani sympathizer”. Kaver further said that he is kept 24 hours a day in a detention center with limited access and without basic facilities. Then he boarded the plane and returned to London.
After arriving in Bangalore from London, Ms Kaur claims she endured long waits at immigration, was given no information about her status and was held in a restricted cell for 24 hours.
In addition, he said he was denied access to basic necessities such as food and water and requests for items such as pillows and blankets despite repeated calls to the airport. He then boarded a flight back to London.
