Diageo India’s single malt whiskey brewed in India, Godawan 100, has won the prestigious title of ‘Single Malt Whiskey of the Year’ in 2024 at the London Spirits Competition (LSC) with a score of 96, beating the world’s whiskey brands, in a major hat-trick to Indian brewing art .
All products from the Godawan stable won gold medals, said Sid Patel, chief executive of the Beverage Trade Network, which organizes the London Spirits Competition. Godawan won among brands from more than 80 countries. The event took place at London’s Marleybone from 21 March 2024 to 22 March 2024.

Tasters praised Godawan 100 for its “strong tropical notes, lighter palate and short finish. The London Spirits Competition also cited a “sweet palate” that shows hints of spice.

What does Godawan mean?
The whiskey derives its name from the bustard, colloquially called the Godawan, also the official bird of the state of Rajasthan. The whiskey is inspired by the desert state’s “beauty-in-scarce ethos,” according to LSC.
Godawan’s origins in arid conditions lend it an increased “angel’s share” phenomenon. The whiskey matured in carefully selected casks. The cooking process involved Indian plant matter, according to the LSC.
What is the price of Godawan Whiskey?
Godawan whiskey is distilled in the city of Alwar in Rajasthan. The whiskey is matured using barley and water in ex-bourbon casks for at least 10 years. One bottle of Godawan is priced at Rs 5,400 per bottle of the fruity and spiced whisky. The whiskey was launched in 2021.
