The Harmanpreet Kaur-led Indian women’s cricket team reached the final of the 2024 Women’s Asia Cup on Saturday, beating Bangladesh’s Nigar Sultana by 10 wickets in the first semi-final match in Dambulla. It was the third ten-wicket win in the competition from the last five games.
Chasing just 81 runs, Indian openers Shefali Verma and Smriti Mandhana kept the momentum going and did not let the Bangladeshi bowlers over. India chased down the target in just 11 overs as they scored 83.
Shefali scored 26 off 28 while Mandhana hit an unbeaten half-century – 55 off 39 deliveries with nine fours and one six. Both the batsmen remained unbeaten. Renuka Thakur Singh was declared the player of the match.
Earlier, Nigar Sultana won the toss and elected Bangladesh to bat first. However, the unit failed as they kept losing wickets at frequent intervals. Part from skipper Nigar Sultana – who made 32 off 51, no other batsman could cross the 20-run mark.
For India, Renuka Singh and Radha Yadav took three wickets each, while Pooja Vastrakar and Deepti Sharma secured one wicket each.
The final match of the Asia Cup Women’s T20 2024 will be played on July 28 in Dambulla, where India will face the winner of the second semi-final between Sri Lanka and Pakistan on Saturday, according to details.
Earlier on 23 July, the Indian women’s cricket team defeated Nepal by 82 runs, while on 21 July they defeated the UAE by 78 runs. India started their Asia Cup journey by defeating Pakistan by 7 wickets on 19 July.

The Indian women’s cricket team topped the table in Group A as they won all their three matches and had a net success rate of +3.615.
India’s Deepti Sharma is the leading wicket-taker in the series with eight wickets in three matches, while Shefali Verma is the second leading run-scorer with 158 runs in three matches.
