Chasing a target of 206 runs, Australia needed 29 from 6 balls to win but lost to India by 24 runs in the ongoing ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in Saint Lucia on 24 June.
With this win, India will now play their semi-final match of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 against England on June 27 at the Guyana National Stadium. India also remained unbeaten in the tournament, winning all 7 matches. Rohit Sharma was named “Player of the Match”.
Chasing down 206 runs against India, Australia scored 99/2 in just 10 overs. Travis Head scored his half-century in just 26 deliveries and Australia need 107 runs in 60 balls in St Lucia. But Australia could only score 181/7 in 20 overs. For Australia, Castle scored 76 off 43 balls as Mitchell Marsh (37), Glenn Maxwell (20) tried their best but fell short by 24 runs.
For India, Arshdeep Singh took three wickets and Kuldeep Yadav took two wickets. Jasprit Bumrah and Axar Patel also secured one wicket each.
For India, Rohit scored his second half-century of the tournament in just 19 deliveries, his best tally in T20 World Cups. The Indian captain made 92 runs off 41 balls.
While Suryakumar Yadav (31), Shivam Dube (28) and Hardik Pandya (27*) made some important runs.
For Australia, Marcus Stoinis and Mitchell Starc took two wickets, while Josh Hazlewood took one wicket.
