Himachal Pradesh experiences moderate to heavy snowfall

The Himachal Pradesh capital and Manali witnessed light snowfall on Wednesday, even as higher elevations of the state received moderate to heavy snowfall.

The weatherman said the tourist destinations of Shimla, Manali and Dalhousie are expected to receive moderate to heavy snowfall till Thursday.

According to the meteorological office here, the high hills of Lahaul and Spiti, Kullu, Chamba, Shimla, Sirmaur and Kinnaur are facing moderate to heavy snowfall.

The nearby hills of the picturesque tourist resort of Manali, about 250 km from Shimla, have been snowing since Tuesday.

Kalpa in Kinnaur district recorded 24 cm of snow in the last 24 hours while Manali received 63 mm of rain.

Keylong in Lahaul and Spiti district was the coldest place in the state with a minimum of minus 1.6 degrees Celsius, while Kalpa recorded minus 1.2 degrees, Dharamsala seven degrees and Manali one degree.

The state capital had the lowest temperature at 7.6 degrees Celsius.

Shimla and its nearby popular destinations of Kufri, Fagu, Mashobra and Narkanda are still blanketed in white with earlier spells of snowfall.

Likewise, Manali and its nearby Solang slopes have good snow accumulation.

The weatherman said heavy rains and snowfall are expected at some places in the state till Thursday as a western disturbance is active in the region.
