A private bus caught fire on the Delhi-Jaipur Expressway in Gurugram, Haryana on Wednesday. According to initial reports, at least two people died in the incident, and seven other passengers were injured. Fire tenders rushed to the spot to douse the flames and a rescue operation is underway, officials said.
A video of this incident was published on social networks and heavy flames and smoke rose from the bus. The exact cause of this incident is not yet known. The injured were shifted to hospital for treatment. The identity of the deceased is yet to be known.
The incident took place around 8:30 pm near the Jharsa flyover on the Delhi-Jaipur highway, a fire official said. “Three fire tenders rushed to the spot after we received information that a sleeper bus bearing registration number AR 01 K 7707 had caught fire on the road,” Deputy Director of Fire Brigade Gulshan Kalra told PTI. “The incident is believed to have occurred at around 9pm today. Two bodies were pulled from the bus. The injured have been taken to hospital,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Varun Kumar Dahiya said.
The injured suffered 30 to 50 percent burns and were admitted to the Gurugram Civil Hospital. Hospital management confirmed that seven injured people are being treated at the facility. “All the injured have suffered 30 to 50 percent burns, but they are stable,” the doctor said.
The incident happened when the bus was crossing the Sector 31 flyover. Fire brigade, Superintendent of Police Gurugram and other administrative officials attended the spot.
However, by the time the fire department arrived at the scene, the bus was completely engulfed in flames.
According to reports, more than 40 passengers were present in the bus. The incident caused a massive traffic jam on the Delhi-Jaipur Expressway, which was later cleared by the traffic police. The bus had the number of Andhra Pradesh and was bound for Hamirpur.
All the injured were taken to nearby hospitals.
