At least 91 people were killed and hundreds injured on Sunday in clashes between protesters demanding Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s resignation and supporters of the ruling party in Bangladesh, forcing authorities to cut mobile internet and impose an indefinite nationwide curfew.
The Indian embassy in Bangladesh has issued an advisory urging Indian nationals residing in the country to “remain alert” after a fresh round of violence in the South Asian country has left nearly 72 dead, including 14 policemen, and hundreds injured.
The Indian Embassy has also issued an emergency helpline number.

Student protest
At least 91 people were killed (including 14 police officers) and dozens injured in a fresh round of violence in Bangladesh on Sunday, when police used tear gas and stun grenades to disperse tens of thousands of protesters calling on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to resign.
Clashes erupted this morning when protesters who took part in a non-cooperation movement demanding the resignation of the government faced resistance from supporters of the Awami League, Chhatra League and Jubo League activists.
According to the police headquarters, 14 police officers were killed across the country. 13 of them were killed at Enayetpur police station in Sirajganj. One person was killed in Comilla’s Elliotganj, the paper said.
Nationwide curfew for an indefinite period
Following the violence, the Ministry of the Interior has imposed an indefinite nationwide curfew from 18:00 today.
The government has also ordered the shutdown of social media platforms such as Facebook, Messenger, WhatsApp and Instagram to stop the spread of rumours. Mobile operators have also been ordered to turn off 4G mobile internet, the paper added.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Hasina said that those involved in “sabotage” across the country in the name of protest are not students but terrorists. She asked people to suppress them with a firm hand.
The Students Against Discrimination platform has called for a movement for total non-cooperation from today with a one-point demand for the resignation of the government.
