Amrit Udyan reopens at Rashtrapati Bhavan in Delhi

According to Rashtrapati Bhavan, the famous Amrit Udyan (earlier Mughal Gardens) will be opened for a month from August 16. The statement said President Droupadi Murmu celebrated the launch of the annual summer edition of Amrit Udyan on Wednesday.

According to Rashtrapati Bhavan, the Amrit Udyan will remain open to the public from August 16 to September 15, from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm, except Monday, which will be a maintenance day for the Udyan. At 17:15 the last applications will be accepted.

This reopening is part of the 15-acre second phase of the planned Udyan Utsav, which was announced in the state capital in February. With summer annuals, the gardens are transformed into a stunning landscape, so visitors can observe the blooming of seasonal flowers such as Coleus, Celosia, tuberose and several other rare species.

Avneesh Banswal, gardener at Rashtrapati Bhavan, said, “For this season, it will be a summer garden with 37 species that can withstand the harsh temperatures of Delhi at times when gardening is impossible. This is especially for garden enthusiasts to witness”.

He described how he and his team managed to get the colorful flowers of Celosia Cristata and other species to bloom, adding: “It’s similar to Cock’s comb and I feel it’s difficult to get this species to flower during this time.”

What’s new this time?

Visitors to the gardens will undoubtedly be impressed by the stunning new arrangement. New additions include Bal Vatika, a children’s garden with the story of a 225-year-old Sheesham tree, a tree house and a nature classroom.

Even the visitors will not leave empty-handed this year. Deputy Press Secretary to the President Navika Gupta said, “A new initiative has been taken this time. Visitors will be given an ecological Seed Paper souvenir. These are paper sheets filled with seeds that encourage every visitor to create and care for greenery at home. By sowing these papers, individuals can take an active part in supporting a greener planet.”
