AGEL to invest ₹1.5 trillion in developing world’s largest RE park in Khavda

Adani Green Energy Ltd plans to invest about ₹ 1.5 trillion by 2030 to develop the world’s largest 30 gigawatt renewable energy plant at the Khavda Renewable Energy Park in Gujarat, company honcho Vneet Jaain said in a media interaction on Saturday.

The project, which is part of Adani Groups flagship renewable energy drive to achieve 45 gigawatts (GW) of installed renewable energy capacity in the country by 2030, will bring 26 GW of solar and 4 GW of wind generation capacity.

AGEL currently has an operating renewable portfolio of 10.93 GW – 7.39 GW solar, 1.4 GW wind and 2.14 GW hybrid – across 12 states.

Jaain, Managing Director of AGEL informed the media that the company has already commissioned 2 GW of solar capacity in the park and another 4 GW will be installed in the current financial year (FY25), with a larger share of solar power.

Adani’s project would also make Khavda the largest renewable energy park in the country with a cumulative capacity of about 45 GW. Other developers in the park include state-owned NTPC and Gujarat Industries Power Company (GIPC). Currently, the largest renewable energy park in India is Bhadla Solar Park in Rajasthan with a capacity of 2.24 GW.

Already active in solar modules and cells, the company has also recently ventured into wafer and ingot production.

Recognizing that a complete manufacturing ecosystem is needed for solar power generation, Jaain said that in about three-and-a-half years, Adani New Industries will also develop polysilicon, ensuring its presence throughout the solar module supply chain.

In the current financial situation, the company would add 1 GW of wind turbine capacity, taking the total wind turbine generation capacity to 2.5 GW, and another 2.5 GW may be added by the end of financial year 2027 (FY27).

Currently, the company largely exports 4 GW of its existing solar module production capacity. Both its solar modules and wind turbine manufacturing facilities are located in Mundra, Gujarat.
