Admiral Dinesh Kumar Tripathi takes charge as 26th Navy chief

Admiral Dinesh Kumar Tripathi, who is a communications and electronic warfare specialist, took over as the 26th Navy Chief on Tuesday after incumbent R Hari Kumar retired from service.

Admiral Tripathi, a Sainik Rewa graduate, served as Deputy Chief of Naval Staff before taking over the reins of the unit.

Born on 15 May 1964, Admiral Tripathi was commissioned into the executive branch of the Indian Navy on 1 July 1985. The communications and electronic warfare specialist has a long and distinguished service spanning nearly 39 years.

Prior to his appointment as Deputy Chief of the Navy, he served as the Senior Flag Officer of the Western Naval Command.

Admiral Tripathi commanded the Indian Navy ships Vinash, Kirch and Trishul. He has also held various important operational and personnel roles, including Operations Officer, Western Fleet, Director of Naval Operations, Senior Director of Network Operations, and Senior Director of Naval Plans.

As a rear admiral, he served as flag officer in command of the Eastern Fleet. He also served as Commandant of the prestigious Indian Naval Academy, Ezhimala.

A graduate of the National Defense Academy, Khadakwasla, Admiral Tripathi has completed courses at the Defense Services Staff College, Wellington, the Naval Higher Command Course, Karanja and the Naval Command College in the United States.

He is a recipient of Ati Vishisht Seva Medal (AVSM) and Nau Sena Medal (NM). Admiral Hari Kumar has retired after a career spanning four decades.
