Delhi colder than Shimla, Mussoorie as temperature drops to 4.9 degrees

While parts of Jammu and Kashmir are receiving snowfall, in the south, the states are expected to receive heavy rainfall today and in the coming days.

In its latest weather update, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that several regions in the southern states of the country may experience heavy rainfall while others may experience light to moderate rainfall.

Temperature in New Delhi

On December 15, the minimum temperature in New Delhi dropped to 4.9 degrees Celsius, four degrees below normal.

According to an Indian Express report, such minimum temperature made the capital colder than some places in the mountains of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand such as Shimla and Mussoorie.

According to the forecast of RWFC New Delhi, the maximum temperature in New Delhi today will be 25 degrees Celsius, while the minimum that the city could hit is 5 degrees Celsius. At the time of writing, the temperature in Delhi hovered around 12 degrees Celsius, while people in Mumbai were enjoying 23 degrees Celsius.

The minimum temperature in Delhi is expected to be in the range of 5-7 degrees Celsius for the next few days.

The IMD said no “significant change” in minimum temperatures is expected over the northern parts of the country over the next 4-5 days.

Heavy rainfall in Tamil Nadu, Kerala

According to the agency’s forecast, regions in south Tamil Nadu could experience isolated heavy rainfall between December 16 and 19 and Kerala on December 16 and 17. Very heavy rains are also likely over south Tamil Nadu on December 16 and 17 and south Kerala on December 17, the IMD added.

Besides, a few places in Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Mahe could experience light to moderate rainfall on December 15, 18 and 19.

Dense fog in Punjab, Haryana

A spell of dense fog will continue in Punjab and Haryana. In an update, the IMD said, “Thick morning is likely to occur over remote areas of Punjab and Haryana the next 5 days.”

Snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh

Rain/snow forecasts continue in the north as temperatures drop below 0 degrees Celsius. The IMD has predicted a chance of isolated rainfall and snowfall over Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad on 16 and 17 December and over Himachal Pradesh on 16 December.
