Mythology Behind Krishna Janmashtmi

Lord Krishna is the eighth son of Vasudev and Devaki. A divine voice told Devaki’s brother, King Kamsa, that his sister Devaki’s eighth son would kill him.

Therefore, he imprisoned her sister and her husband and killed their seven children after they were born. When the eighth son was born, Vasudev hid the boy in Gokul across the Yamuna river and replaced it with the newborn girl, that of the shepherd couple Nanda and Yashoda. When Kamsa came to kill the boy, the little girl appeared in the form of goddess Durga and told him that her death had come to her kingdom.

Lord Krishna grew up as a cowherd in Gokul and then killed King Kamsa to show the destruction of the Lord against evil forces.
