10 pilgrims killed as bus falls into gorge in J&K after terror attack

About 10 people were killed and 33 injured on Sunday after terrorists opened fire on a bus carrying pilgrims. A bus fell into a deep gorge in Jammu and Kashmir’s Reasi district after the terrorist fired. The incident took place on Sunday evening when the bus was returning from the Shiv Khori temple in Reasi to Katra, according to officials.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Reasi Mohita Sharma said that as a result of the firing, the driver lost his balance and the bus fell into a ravine. She added that the passengers were not local and their identities have not yet been confirmed.

SSP Sharma also said that the rescue operation has been completed. With the help of locals present at the scene of the accident, the police evacuated all passengers by 8:10 p.m. 33 injured were sent to various hospitals in Reasi, Treyath and Jammu.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi dialed the phone of J&K LG Manoj Sinha and took stock of the situation on the ground.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah also gave an update on the situation on the ground in Reasi. In his post, the Union Home Minister said that the J&K local administration was working on a “war footing” to provide immediate medical assistance to the injured. He also said that those behind this attack on pilgrims will not be spared.

BJP MP Kangana Ranaut also condemned the terror attack and said, “I strongly condemn the cowardly terror attack on pilgrims in Reasi, Jammu and Kashmir. I pray for the deceased and hope for the speedy recovery of the injured.”

A joint operational command of the police, Indian Army and CRPF was set up at the site and a multi-pronged operation was launched to nab the assailants. The terrorists involved in this dastardly attack are believed to be hiding in the upper reaches of Rajouri, Reasi and Poonch, according to sources.
