Team India captain Rohit Sharma slammed a magnificent half-century to lead his team to an 8-wicket win against Ireland in the first match of the T20 World Cup 2024. Paul Stirling-led Ireland were restricted to a low score of 96 runs as Hardik Pandya and other pacers did a brilliant job at the New York Stadium. Arshdeep Singh conceded some crucial runs in the death overs which boosted Ireland’s score.
India won the toss and captain Rohit Sharma elected to bowl first. Indian national cricket today plays with five pacers.

The Rohit Sharma-led Indian cricket team is all set to kick off their T20 World Cup 2024 campaign at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York on Wednesday, where they will play their first match against Ireland. Team India will go into their first match full of confidence as they secured a massive win against Bangladesh in the warm-up and the India vs Ireland match will set the tone for the upcoming India vs Pakistan thriller on June 9.
The Indian cricket team landed in New York in the last week of May and engaged in intensive training and team-building exercises ahead of the tournament. Spectators will be keen to watch India’s opening duo as some reports suggested that Virat Kohli might open for Rohit Sharma as Yashasvi Jaiswal has not had a very impressive performance at the position in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
