IMD issues red alert for heatwave across north India

The India Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for severe heat waves for Delhi, Rajasthan, Chandigarh, Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh. On the contrary, you will experience the advance of Southwest Monsoon in some parts of South Andaman Sea, Kanyakumari, South of Bengal and Nicobar Islands.

The IMD severe heatwave warning for THESE states:

The weather regulator warned of severe heat waves and issued a red alert for Delhi, Punjab, Chandigarh and Haryana from May 20 to May 23. East Rajasthan and West Rajasthan will experience similar on May 22 and 23. Meanwhile, East Uttar Pradesh will experience extreme heat wave on May 20 and West Uttar Pradesh will experience it from May 20 to May 21.

Heavy rainfall forecast:

According to the IMD weather report, a cyclonic circulation is lying over south interior Tamil Nadu and adjoining areas at low and mid-tropospheric levels. Consequently, there is a possibility of very extreme rainfall over Kerala and Tamil Nadu from 20th May and will continue till 22nd May.

Nicobar Island and Sikkim are expected to experience the same weather conditions from May 20 to May 23. Meghalaya and Assam are also expected to receive heavy rainfall on May 20.

High Temperature:

In terms of maximum temperatures, a gradual rise of 2-3°C is likely over some parts of central India. As there is no major change in maximum temperatures over NW India in the coming two days. Also, no significant changes were observed in maximum temperatures in other parts of India. On May 19, Rajasthan, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh saw temperatures sizzling at 43-46°C.
