1 soldier killed, 4 injured after terrorist open fire on IAF convoy in Poonch

Terrorists attacked a convoy of Indian Air Force (IAF) vehicles in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) on Saturday. Security officials reported that 1 soldier was killed while 4 were injured in the attack and the local Rashtriya Rifles unit launched cordon and search operations in the area.

Officials said the attack took place in the evening when an IAF convoy was moving towards Sanai Top in Surankote area. The condition of the two injured soldiers is said to be critical and they have been taken to hospital.

The force sought reinforcements from the military and police as a massive search operation was launched to track down and neutralize the terrorists. Security has been tightened in Sanai area near Poonch Jalan Valley Galli (JWG) in Surankot, with security personnel checking all vehicles.

Saturday’s attack on the Air Force convoy is the second such attack on security forces in the Poonch region of Jammu and Kashmir. In early January, a military convoy came under heavy fire from suspected insurgents, prompting the military to launch a search operation.
