In a high-scoring thriller match of IPL 2024, Sunrisers Hyderabad crushed Mumbai Indians to win the game by 31 runs. It was the eighth match of the tournament and has now made IPL history with several records being created today. Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya won the toss in Hyderabad and elected to bowl first.
Sunrisers Hyderabad went on a rampage and created a new IPL record with a colossal total of 277 for 3 against Mumbai Indians. Chasing a mammoth target of 277 runs, five-time IPL title winners Mumbai Indians lost to Sunrisers Hyderabad by 31 runs at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on March 27.
Both openers Rohit Sharma (26) and Ishan Kishan (34) got off to a good start, with Naman Dhir (30) and Tilak Varma (64) keeping their momentum alive. However, MI’s run rate dropped after Tilak. With Tim David* (42) and Romario Shepherd* (15) struggling to deliver the final blow, Mumbai Indians scored only 246/5 and lost by 31 runs.
For SRH, Jaidev Unadkat and Pat Cummins picked two wickets each while Shahbaz Ahmed claimed one. With this, SRH claimed their first win in the ongoing IPL tournament.
Abhishek Sharma of SRH was declared the player of the match.
A total of 38 SIXES were hit in this match and a total of 523 runs were scored. Additionally, it was their highest individual scores in IPL history for Sunrisers Hyderabad and Mumbai Indian respectively.
Travis Head (63) and Abhishek Sharma (63) got off to an explosive start for Sunrisers. Head completed his half-century in 18 balls while Abhishek Sharma reached his half-century in 16 deliveries.
After the deadline, the Proteas duo of Heinrich Klassen (80*) and Aiden Markram (41*) led SRH to the highest total in IPL history.
