Virat Kohli scored his 100th fifty-over T20 score during Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s (RCB) IPL 2024 match against Punjab Kings in Bengaluru on Monday.
Kohli got a reprieve for a wicket when he first slipped off Sam Curran and was bowled by Jonny Bairstow. He made the most of life and scored a half-century, 51st in the IPL, in 31 balls.
In T20 cricket, Kohli has managed eight centuries and 92 fifties. Of those, one century and 37 fifties came in internationals.
Chris Gayle leads the list with 110 totals in the fifty-over format, closely followed by David Warner in second place, who has 109 such scores to his name. Kohli sits at number three.
Kohli’s effort (77 off 58) kept RCB in contention in his 177-run chase, but he perished trying to take on Harshal Patel and hit third man. Dinesh Karthik’s late cameo secured RCB with four deliveries to register their first points of the season.
For Punjab, Kasigo Rabada Harpreet Brar took two wickets each while Harshal Patel and Sam Curran took one wicket each.
Punjab Kings finished with an average score of 176/6 after 20 overs as RCB bowlers Glenn Maxwell and Yash Dayal bowled some good spells to restrict the PBKS batting. A strong finish by Shikhar Dhawan and Shashank gave the Punjab bowlers some runs to defend.
