Ruturaj Gaikwad-led Chennai Super Kings started the IPL 2024 tournament on a winning note as they beat Faf du Plessis-led Royal Challengers Bangalore by 6 wickets in the opening match of IPL 2024 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Friday.
CSK’s Mustafizur Rahman was declared ‘Man of the Match’ for taking 4 wickets against RCB in the opening match of TATA IPL 2024.
Chasing 174 runs against RCB in the IPL 2024 opener, CSK’s Ruturaj Gaikwad (15) and Rachin Ravindra (37) got off to a good start. After their dismissal, Ajinkya Rahane (27) and Daryl Mitchell (22) also played really well. But the icing on the cake was the performances of Shivam Dube (*34) and Ravindra Jadeja (*25) which saw the defending champions beat RCB by 6 wickets.
For RCB, Cameron Green picked two wickets while Yash Dayal and Karn Sharma picked one wicket each.
Earlier in the day, RCB captain Faf du Plessis won the toss and elected to bat first in the IPL 2024 opener.
After winning the toss, RCB lost a quick 5 wickets as CSK’s Mustafizur Rahman took 4 wickets in the IPL 2024 opener at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Friday. RCB managed to score 173/6 in 20 overs.
Faf du Plessis (35) and Virat Kohli (21) got off to a good start for RCB, but then RCB lost Cameron Green (18), Glenn Maxwell (0), Rajat Patidar (0) and Cameron Green (18). However, Anuj Rawat (48) and Dinesh Kartik (38*) built a good partnership to guide RCB to a score of 173/6 in 20 overs.
Virat Kohli completed 12,000 T20 runs and Mustafizur Rahman picked the 50th wicket of his IPL career.
