Popular ghazal and playback singer Pankaj Udhas passed away after losing his battle with a lingering illness. The Indian singer made a special place in people’s hearts with his iconic songs like Chitthi Aayi Hai from Mahesh Bhatta’s 1986 crime thriller Naam.
Udhasa’s family confirmed his death on Monday. The Padma Shri awardee is best known for lending his voice to memorable tracks such as Chitthi Aayi Hai from Mahesh Bhatt’s 1986 crime thriller Naam.
Ghazal master Pankaj Udas was born on May 17, 1951 in Jetpur, Gujarat. He then moved to Mumbai and graduated from St. Xavier’s College. He also went to head BPTI Bhavanagar in Gujarat.
Not only Pankaj Udas but his two brothers also started singing career and one of the brothers became a big success. The elder brother, Manhar Udas, became famous for his Hindi singing in Bollywood films, while his other brother, Nirmal Udas, became a famous ghazal singer.
