Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia on Thursday said that India’s first Helicopter Medical Emergency Service (HEMS) will be launched from Uttarakhand.
“I want to inform the people of Uttarakhand that the country’s first HEMS service will be launched by the state,” Scindia said in a video shared on X.
The helicopter will be stationed on duty at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) from where it will be dispatched anywhere within a radius of 150 km to airlift anyone who meets with an accident to a medical facility.

“The assembly and certification of the helicopter to be deployed for this purpose is in progress. It is on my dashboard. It is now purely my concern, not yours,” he said.
According to Scindia, the helicopter will be based at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Rishikesh and will cover an area of 150 km by airlifting anyone who has met with an accident on the highway to a medical facility. or elsewhere.

The HEMS service is expected to play a vital role in saving lives during medical emergencies, especially in hard-to-reach areas or areas with insufficient road infrastructure.
