Today, Indian web series are breaking new boundaries in terms of grandeur and budget, often rivaling even the biggest Bollywood and Tollywood blockbusters.

Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s upcoming Netflix show Heeramandi is said to be the most expensive ever made in the Indian streaming web series. According to the Times of India, the show has a budget of over Rs 200 crore, which means it has narrowly overtaken the Ajay Devgn starrer Rudra: Edge of Darkness, which was made on a budget of Rs 200 crore.

According to reports, Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s fees account for most of the production cost of Heeramandi. The director takes home more than Rs 60 crore for his role as creator and showrunner.

Heeramandi Cast
Heeramandi stars Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha, Aditi Rao Hydari, Richa Chadha, Sanjeeda Sheikh and Sharmin Segal. The series is based on the lives of tawaifs from the infamous Heera Mandi red light district in Lahore. Directed by Bhansali and Mitakshara Kumar, the show will be released on Netflix later this year. The first look was unveiled earlier this month.
