The new Royal Enfield Shotgun 650 is the fourth and latest addition to the internationally acclaimed RE 650 portfolio after the Interceptor 650, Continental GT and Super Meteor 650. It shares its engine and chassis with the Super Meteor 650, but Royal Enfield says the similarities end there. The two bikes are radically different in appearance, with the Shotgun adopting a more modern custom-inspired theme. Priced at Rs 3.59 lakh, the Shotgun 650 is priced similarly to the Super Meteor 650, which starts at Rs 3.64 lakh.

The Shotgun 650 style walks a fine line between modern and retro. The hardware is completely blacked out in stark contrast to the Super Meteor’s chrome, but the bobber-style tail and peashooter exhaust betray more classic intentions. While the Shotgun shares some aesthetic similarities with the Super Meteor, it gains a more upright riding position with a taller 795mm saddle (compared to the Super Meteor’s 740mm), center footpegs and a more eager 25.3 degree head angle. The saddle on the 650 shotgun can be removed, which further enhances the aesthetic appearance of the shotgun.
Royal Enfield Shotgun 650 Powertrain
The shotgun keeps RE’s familiar 648cc air-cooled SOHC parallel twin producing 46bhp at 7250rpm and 52.3Nm at 5650rpm via a 6-speed gearbox. While the unit itself remains unchanged, Royal Enfield has revised the final gear ratios to suit the bike’s character and differentiate it from its stablemates. The tank capacity is 13.8 liters and the bike has a fuel consumption of 22 kmpl, which should give it a range of about 300 km on a full tank.
Royal Enfield Shotgun 650 Electronics
The Shotgun 650 may not be bursting with gadgets, but it has all the amenities you’d expect from a modern motorcycle, including dual-channel ABS, USB charging and full LED lighting. The instrument cluster is a single-cylinder unit with a retro-style analog speedometer and a digital display showing the time, fuel level, gear, odometer and other parameters. RE’s optional Tripper navigation system is also available.
Royal Enfield Shotgun 650 Price
The Shotgun 650 Motoverse edition was priced at Rs 4.25 lakh ex-showroom. It was a hand-painted bike and rightfully so at a higher price. The production shotgun 650 undercuts the Motoverse edition at Rs 3.59 lakh.
